Long At Last-Kitchen Cabinet Knobs!

-I have been living in my current house for almost 4 years.  When I first saw the kitchen it was almost like a blank slate.  It was very neutral in color and simple in design.
This is how the kitchen looked before we bought it.

Simple in design equals no cabinet knobs.  I’ve searched and searched for knobs I LOVE!  I found these beautiful mercury glass knobs from Anthropologie.

However, living in a one-income household means that I can’t bring myself to spending $8/knob, when I need 22 of them.  Anthropologie doesn’t seem to remember we’re in a recession and refuses to put these beauties on sale. (Trust me, I check pretty much on a daily basis.)  So I’ve been searching for a less expensive, yet creative, alternative.

I found my answer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore I visited this last weekend.  Old fuses for $0.25!!!!

Before

After

I don’t know if they will stay on with Gorilla Glue.  I’ll keep you posted.   I

Update (07-02-10):
Gorilla glue didn't hold up.  Actually, they came off pretty quickly.  However this worked just dandy!!!

Well, that's pretty clever and I like it. I like the little pops of color they give. Very cool!

That is an ingenious idea. Let us know how the glue holds. I like the little bits of colour around the kitchen.

It did look like a bland blank slate before you homied it up. Hope to see it at the Heart of the Home party in a week or so. I was worried about gluing them on. Hope it does hold up for you.

What an incredibly great idea. I think they are way cooler than the Anthropologie knobs. But if you have Hobby Lobby in your area...they carry lots of great knobs...very similar to Anthro. And if you get on 50% off which happens at least once a month...you can buy knobs for like $2.50 each...of course still not as cheap as your Habitat find.

Great and creative job! I got lucky and found just the knobs that I wanted on Ebay for 99 cents a knob and free shipping. But I have to say I wish I would have come up with a creative idea like this first! :}

I was actually wondering hose the Gorilla glue held up as I read this post -- then saw your update. I had a girlfriend who repaired her windshield wiper with J-B Weld (a single mother doing a roadside repair on a non-existent budget), and it held up for years, but I once used it to create some garden totems that didn't even hold up for one season. Keep us updated on how the new product works out :) I absolutely LOVE the use of fuses for knobs!

I've been drooling over knobs from Anthropologie and decided I needed a creative solution. I was searching and found this. Thank you SO much! This is exactly what I wanted to do.

Just found some fuses today--I've used gorilla glue several times and it NEVER holds up--everything comes apart. Hobby Lobby has the mercury knobs at half price lots of times!
Yes, I am several years late finding this page!
