Heeere We Go Again.

-It's that time of year again in our household to start getting things ready for the new school year.  SKB #2 will be in his second year of pre-k and SKB #1 will be starting 3rd grade.  This has me super nervous because from what I hear, it’s the hardest grade.  SKB #1 is NOT, I repeat… is NOT a school lover.  Challenges for him with his studies mean challenges for me to get him do homework without wanting to throw it out the window.  Luckily, he has an awesome tutor, great support system at school, and hopefully a great teacher (sadly, not all teachers are created equal).  He has me at home (Sun Kissed Husband is usually not around for homework time.  Lucky.) with a bottle of wine in the fridge so I won’t throw the homework out the window.  In case you’re wondering, SKB #1 could care less about going into 3rd grade.  He’s more concerned about what he’s going to wear the first day so the love of his life will still like him after such a long break.  His words, not mine.  Did I mention he’s only 8?!

But that’s not what this post is about.  I am sure you will read about my his school frustrations throughout the school year.

I have the mom-mobile loaded up with the school supplies for the teachers.  The fact that this is done and it’s only Thursday (school starts Monday), is a true miracle.  Normally, I can be found shopping at the office supply store the night before because Target is out of the things I need.

To keep us organized, I decided to turn a corner of the playroom into school central.

The color I chose for the walls is a little brighter than I pictured in my head so I sanded it down.  This gives it a worn beachy look that goes with the rest of the house.  But it’s time consuming, messy, and I lost my attention span so I only did two of the paneling slabs.  I might do more later.

Sun Kissed Husband hung up hooks for the backpacks.

I used oversized thumbtacks to hang up cork tiles.

I love that Sun Kissed Husband thinks of me when he sees “junky” slab pieces of wood because he knows I’ll turn it into something.  Really, can’t spray paint save everything?!

A big calendar is in order to keep track of three active boys.

Once again here is the corner before…

…and after.

SKB #3 is not quite ready for preschool but he likes to be part of what the big brothers do.I

Wow, most parents just get a desk for their kid. I would love to see a 'video walkthrough' of your home sometime. I'll bet it's absolutely amazing!

T - Thank you. I don't have a video tour (yet) but I did do a post a little while back called "What I Love About My House" if you want to check it out.

Thanks again for the keen eye.

This came out so well. It is great to have everyting in one place. I love the teddy bear drawer pulls too.

What a great corner Yanet! I miss that about the boys being little. Getting all creative for school stuff. But I do not miss those long, long supply lists! I love the sanded down wall.

I love how it looks where you sanded the walls/panels. It does look beachy!

Those signs are also super cute. I love how you staggered the hooks, too.

I can't believe the list that you get of supplies! I'm an elementary teacher and that is WAY more than we ask the kids to bring... :)

P.S. Reading your back to school post made me nervous. Better start getting ready, myself!

That is a great idea! Something like this would have saved us a lot of tearful mornings.

I really like how you sanded the paneling.

"SKB #1 could care less about going into 3rd grade. He’s more concerned about what he’s going to wear the first day", maybe some day he will be a great fashion man or may be will has a Great Boutique.
