Granny was one of the firsts to chime in with what it was and then went on to tell me a basic explanation on how it works. Thank you, Granny.
I had to laugh at Cassie's guess, a hijinksamagubber! Following Dr. Suess's lead that if you don't know what something is, then make up something funny to name it. Funny indeed.
Anita did a little research and found one for sale on Etsy. This is a snippet of what the seller had to say about it.
"It consists of two 5.5 ft long slats, slotted and joined with metal hardware, which allows the back slat to be slid up to extend the height of the pole. An oval sliding target can be moved up and down the pole and is held with a metal clip."
I guess I have only half of a the measuring stick. According to the above description, the other slat would go on the top metal slide.
Now I want a target thingy for mine! Let's see, if I found the stick for a dollar, do you think I can find the target for 50 cents? Hmm.

I am such a google geek! Have you decided what you'll do with it? I saw a really long wooden level the other day and almost got it. I just couldn't think of what to do with it.
You are welcome
You are welcome.. I am not sure what part of the country you live in but if it is where you get lots of snow... I have an idea for you for the measuring stick.. Why do you not make him look like a snowman.. Just cut out some wooden parts for a head and a hat and paint some button eyes and a carrot and attach to the top of the stick.. Add a nice knitted scarf and then put by your front door and when it snows you can put the stick in the snow and voila you will know how many inches of snow you have....
Okay, that stick blew my mind, but the explanation makes sense.
I am now following you on Twitter.
Ooo... that would be awesome if you could find the other part. The part you do have is very cool on it's own. :) Michelle
Yeah, you found out what it was!
ooh what a cool piece!! I would have never guessed that that is what it was. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for for it!
How very cool!!
If anyone could find it for .50, it would be you! I'm sure of it. You found that awesome couch for $40, after all.
