Pottery Barn Inspired Playroom

I want to share with you today this Pottery Barn inspired playroom my friend, Ruth, put together.    

Ruth put a lot of thought into creating a purpose for every inch of this space.  In the middle of the room is an art table.  The corners are designed for play/toy storage, homework, art, and music/reading.

Here's Ruth hard at work recreating the house chalkboard and cork-boards.  

This is my favorite piece of the room.  I love the mobile that she put together.  I want one!

Didn't she do a marvelous job?!  Now, if I can only get her to come over to my house and help me finish up my boys' playroom.  Hint, hint!

Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue

I find it so funny when the tiny humans (anybody get the Grey's Anatomy reference?) start singing Billboard songs.  When Sun Kissed Boy #2 started singing along to Sugarland's Stuck Like Glue, I couldn't help but grab the camera.  

When he put his hand up in the air to do a little dance, I almost peed a little.

(In case you're wondering, these pictures were taken while I was parked in car-line waiting for SKB#1.)

I know some of you read my blog while at work (it's ok Cheryl from Wisconsin, I won't tell) but if you turn down your speakers and just view the video I think you'll find it quite funny, in a creepy sorta way.

Sun Kissed Boys #1's Room's Done...for now

I've been putting off posting pictures of SKB #1's room because, after posting inspiration pictures, I was inspired.  Inspired to repaint, to take up carpeting, etc.  Then I remembered, I hate painting.  I'm not good at painting walls.  I drip and my borders come out wobbly, even with painter tape!  (Don't ask, I don't know how that can happen but it does.)  So I'll wait until Sun Kissed Husband's Aunt Jane and Uncle Dave (they LOVE painting and have painted my house several times over) come down for a visit.  But at least the room is organized and roomier looking.

This is how it use to look like (when I started moving stuff around). 

Decluttering and shifting furniture around goes a long way.

My idea of putting things away is to put them in a drawer or closet.  Sun Kissed Boy #1's idea is to display them.

  
He actually might be up to something.  Using his toys to decorate is a getting double usage out of them.  Also, his likes and dislikes change so quickly, this might be the easiest way to decorate as well.

This week seems to be dragging for me.  I'm so glad tomorrow is finally Friday!

Levels & Doorknobs

Monday I showed you part of my neighbors' collections.  Here are more of their treasures.

I love using vintage levels for decorating purposes.  This one has a hook at the bottom making not only decorative, but utilitarian as well.

Alanna's idea is to write "Life in Balance" on this red level.

My heart throbs for these doorknobs turned hangers.

They haven't hung up these vintage mail boxes but they were too adorable not to show yall.

"It's Like a Garage Sale Without Money!"

That's how my neighbor, Alanna, referred to our bulk trash pick up finds from Sunday.  There were some knick knacks like a large picture frame, wood-handled fishing poles, and a wood bucket but our best find was...

Can you believe this antique chair?!  Alanna spotted it with her handy-dandy flash light.  Hey, we are prepared when we go junking!

It looks like mahogany wood.  I love the carved details.

Well, that's not all.  This chair came with a friend and it rocks!   :)

Pardon the dust and the presentation (or lack there of).  My house is less than presentable right now.  There's several industrial fans through out drying up a plumbing disaster and a partly ripped up kitchen floor.

Now lucky for me Miss Mustard Seed just posted a tutorial on reupholstering these type of chairs. I'm hoping to have them finished for the "Copy Me" Challenge.  I'm also hoping it doesn't turn out to be one of those things that Miss Mustard Seed makes it look a lot easier than it is.  Crossing fingers.

Blue Glass and "Shelves"

My neighbors, Karen and Alanna, have started several fun collections that I will be showcasing this week.  Today I want to share their blue glass collections.  But it's not only the collection that I am attracted to, but also where they are displayed.

This shelf is made out of reclaimed barn wood.

A repurposed ship's ladder shows off the turquoise jars and electrical covers.

An old, wood, brick mold displays these pretty cobalt blue bottles.

Yesterday there was a very sad story in our local news.  It was the type of story that made me kiss my husband a little deeper and hug my boys a little tighter. 

It also made me more appreciative of the little things in this fragile life that I sometimes take for granted.
