The Baby of the Family

Being the last born has it's advantages. Typically, they get away with more because by the time they are born parents have learned to pick their battles (or are just plain wore-out from the previous kid(s)). But it also has it's disadvantages. Such as not having a parent all to themselves, all the time. I always keep this in mind and, every so often, carve out some quality time with each of the boys individually.

It doesn't have to be anything elaborate. Friday, for example, Sun Kissed #3 wanted a snack after school. He not only wanted a snack, but he wanted it packed in a basket. The older two boys were busy playing the Wii so my mind got clicking. I took out some of my grandmother-in-law's pillowcases to line the basket and I packed us a picnic lunch to enjoy in the backyard.

We both picked out a pillowcase. SKB #3 picked the one with the birdies and I picked the one with the flowers.

It was a beautiful, breezy afternoon while we sat and enjoyed sweet tea and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches; counted goldfishes; and did a little exploring by the lake.

Payment for about an hour of my time? The biggest kiss and the longest hug, EVER!

I know that many years from now he won't remember our little afternoon. But I do know that he will look back at his childhood and feel cared for and loved. What else can a mom ask for, right?

Sun Kissed Boy #3 at the Park

It has been rainy and cloudy here since Sunday. Makes me very glad that I took the boys to the park after school Friday. I got to capture some shots of Sun Kissed Boy #3. These might be my favorites out of all the photos I've taken of him because they depict his personality to a T.

Funny & sweet.

Curious.

Thoughtful.

Adventurous.

Happy.

Focused.

Persistent.

Accomplished.

I often wonder what kind of man my boy will turn out to be. I hope that the traits described above follow him through the years. If his dad is any indication of who he will become, then I think he'll be just fine.

Bringing Terrazzo Back

There have been too many pictures that look like this in my house this year.

I moved furniture around when I re-did the master bedroom. Then I moved more furniture around to re-do Sun Kissed Boy #1's room (which is not completely done but at least has all it's furniture back). Now this past weekend we moved furniture some more to be able to rip out our floor.

At the beginning of the year, we had a leak in the kitchen that damaged the laminate floor. It's taken a while but I finally decided what I wanted for the new flooring. Back to the original terrazzo!

You read right, terrazzo. As in the floor of choice in the 50s through the early 70s. It was big in Florida anyway.

I am getting quotes from different companies to restore it. It needs more than just polishing due to years of re-flooring on top of it.

From what I've been told, they promise to make it look beautiful and sparkly again. I am keeping my fingers crossed. This is going way out of my comfort zone.

To restore it, seems to be the least expensive option. We can also save some money by tearing the current floor out ourselves (or have the minions kids do it).

The process should be done in a week. But finding a reputable company to do the work is a challenge. Feel free to e-mail me if you are local and know of a professional stoner. Oh, wait, that didn't sound right.

Also, if you have any tips on terrazzo, I'd love to hear from you.

Guest Host {Melissa of 320 Sycamore}

Happy Monday, everyone! My Guest Host today is Melissa from 320 Sycamore

Melissa keeps busy with her little family of seven.

Yet she manages to blog about her amazing projects (click on photos for more details).

She also shares great sales or discounts she comes across at stores she's visited. Thanks to Melissa's heads-up, I was able to snatch this patio furniture set at Target's end-of-summer sale for 75% off!
(It has been raining here all day so I couldn't take pictures of my set.)

Today, Melissa's sharing her adorable Halloween mantel she created for her little ones to enjoy. The floor's all yours, Melissa!

********************

Hello! I am Melissa from 320 Sycamore. I’m honored to be here at 3 Sun Kissed Boys, especially since I have 3 boys of my own!

These boys love spooky and scary and spiders, so we decided to make the downstairs mantel just for them, on a budget of course. You see, here is my nice, non-offensive wannabe mantel upstairs:

and here is their spooky one downstairs:

Downstairs is obviously where the fun is…

The pumpkin topiaries are just some old flower urns I spray painted black and stacked some $1.29 pie pumkins from the grocery store.

The silhouette spiders are Martha Stewart from Michaels big Halloween clearance last year: a dad, a mom, and 5 little ones, just like our family :)

The ghosts were super fun to make: cheesecloth drenched in liquid starch, and then placed over a ball on a stand to let dry and eyes cut from black paper.

Don’t they look like they have a mysterious spell cast on them?

The branches are courtesy of some backyard bushes: free! and the stretchable web was also from clearance last year~we put some lights underneath to give it more of an eerie feel.
The boys made the faces on the pumpkins and they are ready to be carved.

Thank you for letting us hang out with you here today, Yanet! You are all welcome to come visit anytime at 320 Sycamore!

Thank you for coming by today, Melissa.

Be sure to visit her warm home at 320 Sycamore where friends are always welcomed!

Will You Marry Me, Mommy?

I remember reading about it in baby books. Then one day, there was Sun Kissed Boy #1 with his little arms wrapped so tightly around me, looking up at me with his big brown eyes and asking me to be his bride. I was so touched by the question. I think I might have teared up.

Fast forward five years and he's gotten over that. But then another little admirer was born.

If you're the mommy of boys, you're probably familiar with the fact that little boys want to marry their mommies. And as strange as it may sound, it might be even stranger to hear that as a mommy, it is a welcomed question.

I'm not sure what the psyche around that is. I would guess it's just a form of flattery. Like when your little ones tell you that you're the prettiest person in the world.

It's sweet when kids see you through rose colored glasses. When the spectacles come off, it only makes you aware that they are growing up before your very eyes.

Sun Kissed Boy #2 wants to marry me, but only when he gets bigger. According to him, right now I'm just his girlfriend. Last night he stood up on a chair and said, "I'm big enough. Now I can marry you!" Rose is a pretty color.
