It's Like Telling Martha Stewart Your Kids Prefer Nuggets

One of our friends that we'll be visiting during our vacation is an amazing hostess! She's the type that will smoke a salmon, cut up herbs from her garden, and then plate it beautifully! When she asked what my boys liked to eat, I wasn't sure what to say. I felt like it's a lot what it would be like to tell Martha Stewart that the boys love eating things like bagel bites. Seriously, I microwaved a chicken patty for Sun Kissed Boy #2 the other days and he said I was the best cooker in the world!! Poor kid.

Lately, she has been pinning these in a board she calls Summer Entertaining.
Every time I see a new pin on her board, I get so excited! I can't help but think to myself, "Oooh, maybe she'll make that when we're there"! Here are a few of my favorites my Martha-like friend has pinned.

I think I better stop because I'm getting really hungry and them frozen chicken patties just ain't gonna cut it!

Expect the Unexpected in the 2013 Kia Sorento, Plus a Giveaway

Expect the Unexpected in the 2013 Kia Sorento, Plus a Giveaway

At a starting price of just over $23,000, the 2013 Kia Sorento is the crossover that makes the most sense to own. With advanced technology, sporty styling and a spacious interior, the Kia Sorento is the first crossover everyone will want to drive.

As this is no ordinary crossover, it deserves an extraordinary road trip. Ready for a joyride? Join us as we take you along on our adventure in the 2013 Kia Sorento.

"99 bottles of pop on the wall, 99 bottles of pop. You take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of pop on the wall," sang the Sun Kissed Family as they made the journey west in their brand new crossover vehicle--and not just any crossover but the very versatile Kia Sorento. They would soon find out just how versatile the Sorento was. Sun, also known as Dad, sang in a reverberating voice. Kissed, being the sweetest mom, of course sang in perfect melody. Out of the three sun kissed boys, #2 sang the loudest, as a middle child should.

At around the 55th bottle of pop being passed around, and in between giggles and raspberries being blown, they heard a thunderous BOOM! They looked up at the tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof and saw nothing but blue skies and sunshine. It couldn't be a storm.

"What in the world was that?" asked Kissed, worried. "I don't know," Sun answered, "but I shall pull over and look around." "Be careful, Daddy! It could be an alien spaceship!" said sun kissed boys #1, #2, and #3 in unison. "Alien spaceship. Silly boys," whispered Sun to himself. Sun got out of the vehicle, looked left, looked straight ahead, and looked right. He saw the same thing that they'd been looking at for hours: a desert highway.

Sun got back in the Sorento and pressed the push-start button. He was explaining his findings, or lack thereof, to Kissed when the back-up warning system started beeping as he shifted into reverse. There was definitely something out there, and it was behind the vehicle. Slowly, everyone's head turned to UVO, the Microsoft-powered, voice-activated, in-vehicle infotainment system. Stunned and silent they stared at the rear-camera display.

The sun kissed boys broke the silence when they yelled, "AN ALIEN SPACESHIP!!!" "Now, boys," Kissed calmly said, "do not get out of the Sorento," and secretly she was ever so thankful for the child safety locks. Before the boys even had a chance to argue, though, something else caught their eye in the UVO screen: movement. There was movement. Whoever, or whatever, drove the spaceship was behind the car also!

They needed a closer look. Sun backed up the car just a little farther. Just enough to see a little alien hand waving a little white alien flag. "He comes in peace!" exclaimed #1. "He's Friendly Alien!" "Poor thing! He looks hurt," said #2 sadly. Sun and Kissed looked at one another and instinctively knew what had to be done. "Can we fit him in the car?" asked Sun. "Yes. We can fit up to 7 passengers," Kissed responded. "Wait, what about the spaceship?" Kissed asked. "We'll tow it. The Sorento has up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity!" Sun answered.

They quickly got out and dragged Friendly Alien in. He was heavy for a being what couldn't have been more than three feet in length. They took advantage of the split-folding abilities in the third row and gently laid the alien down.

As Sun hooked up the spaceship to the hitch, Kissed noticed Friendly Alien had started convulsing. #3 came to the rescue saying, "According to my 'How to Help a Friendly Alien Handbook,' we have to cool him down or he could overheat and EXPLODE!" "Yuck! Wait, what? How do you have a 'How to Help a Friendly Alien Handbook'? And since when can you read? You're four years old!" said Kissed incredulous. "No time for questions, woman!" #3 quickly dismissed her. "We have to find a way to cool him down. Put Friendly Alien in the driver's seat and turn on the air-cooled seat system." Kissed asked, "Do you think that will work?" "It should. The seat features perforations that allow air to circulate," answered #3. "Did you just quote the 2013 Kia Sorento brochure?" asked Kissed, surprised. "Why, yes I did!" answered #3 nonchalantly.

#3's idea, of course, worked. Friendly Alien's temperature went down and he seemed to be resting comfortably. So back to the folded third-row seat he went. However, his comfort didn't last long. "I think he's bleeding something green and gooey," said #2. "Oh no!" gasped Kissed. "Open up the concealed compartment under the cargo floor and grab a blanket. After all, we don't want to get the car dirty." #2 did as his mom told him. The Sun Kissed Family knew the situation was getting worse. They had to do something right away.
"What does your manual say now, genius child?" said #1 to #3 sarcastically. Without missing a beat, #3 said, "It states that the injured alien must be taken to the nearest hospital, otherwise he will EXPLODE! The alien body must be smoothly transported. Any more jerky movements and he could EXPLODE! Any more loud noises and he could--" "EXPLODE!" interrupted Sun. "We get it."

"Can we make it?" asked Kissed. "Of course we can," chimed #3. "This vehicle is American-assembled! Thanks to its unibody design, the Sorento rewards you with an exceptionally smooth and quiet ride matched by precise handling on curvy roads." "Are you seriously quoting the 2013 Kia Sorento brochure again?!" asked Kissed. "Yep," said #3. Kissed couldn't help but ask, "Who are you?"

The story above is fictional and the creation of the writer. Any similarities to real-life events are purely coincidental.

It is obvious that the Sun Kissed Family crossed over to the unexpected. What adventures will you and your Kia Sorento find?

Road Trip 2012: Can You Feel the Heat?

Today we sweated! We went to the Falls of Ohio River State Park and I think I sweated at least five pounds off! (If only it were that easy, right?) What is it about Midwest heat that makes me think I'm going to melt? We also looked for fossils...

...and HE monkeyed around.

So how does one cool off after walking around in 105 heat index?! Ice cream and pool, of course!!

We go back on the road and head to northern Indiana today. How's your week going?

Road Trip 2012: The Beginning

Let me preface this post by telling you a little bit about our last long road trip. On Christmas day, a few years ago, we were driving to Tennessee to meet up friends in their cabin. It was a 16-hour drive which we made in two days. The boys at the time were one, two and six. When we arrived, Sun Kissed Boy #1 got sick. Throwing up, fever, the works. Right after that, the flu got to us all like falling dominoes. And I mean falling. The flu literally knocked everyone out. Eventually, Sun Kissed Husband was well enough to drive and I was half way coherent to be a mom again. I am probably exaggerating. As I am typing about this, I do remember that we went to some antique stores and did some touristy things but the sickness of everyone seems to have overshadowed all my other good thoughts.

Now, keeping all that in mind, when Sun Kissed Husband brought up making the 24-hour drive to his hometown for his 30th year high school reunion, thoughts of the Tennessee trip came flooding back. My first reaction was to say NO WAY, NO HOW! But eventually the sensible part of me kicked in. After all, I couldn't let the Tennessee trip spoil all of our road trips ahead, right? So we loaded the mini-van up with junky snacks, DVDs, and Wii games.

Since this is a 24-hour drive, we are making frequent stops to visit with friends and family. We also packed food to picnic at rest stops along the way. I had visions of letting the boys stretch out their legs as they ran and played under moss-covered trees. They would maybe toss a ball and, of course, I'd take pictures of all of these wonderful happenings. Well, at our first picnic stop the car started overheating, our picnic location was full of gnats, and it was like a thousand degrees outside.
At first, when the boys were complaining, I thought they were being "city boys". But, really, the gnats were so pesty that I was afraid to open my mouth to bite my sandwich thinking they would fly in. I might have eaten one or two. I don't know.

We were lucky enough to find a car dealer that was still opened. I can't thank the folks at Cass Burch Chrysler enough for getting us fixed up and back on the road in what had to be record time.

The following day, we tried the picnic rest stop thing again. Even though there were no gnats, the boys wanted nothing to do with picnicking. We enjoyed the view instead.

After two days on the road, we are now in southern Indiana enjoying time with family.

We have some more traveling to do but I look forward to fun days ahead.

Our Summer So Far & My Number One Fan

My family follows my blog. Out all of them, my sister-in-law might be my #1 fan. At least, she's the most boisterous one when I don't post on a regular basis. Since I've been a little MIA on my blog lately, you can imagine she's had a lot to say. Recently, she posted this on my Facebook wall:

"I miss your semi daily blog updates! Remember the blog is not only for us "me" to enjoy it started out as a record for the boys...."

She knows how to get to me by mentioning the boys. :) She is right though. I did start the blog to chronicle the boys' life. I'm trying to be better about carving out time to post more often. This summer should definitely be talked about since, according to the boys, this is their best summer.

Here are a few shots of what they've been up to.
There was also a water park visit that I somehow forgot to take pictures.

Our next adventure will be even grander! Here's a hint.

No, it's not a pedicure. You're just going to have to stay tuned to find out what it involves. :)

Randy & Christina's Shwedding

This past weekend I attended Randy and Christina's baby shower.

What most of the guests attending, including myself, didn't know was that this was also their wedding ceremony. This made the event a shwedding! Get it? A shower and wedding smooched into one word! I like saying that word, shwedding! Shwedding, shwedding! Ok, I'll stop.

I was really disappointed at myself for not having brought my camera. I did take a couple with my iPhone.

Of course, the photos I love the most are the ones I took of her for the purpose of putting a slideshow together for the couple.

As luck would have it, in one of Ashley Ann's recent posts she wrote part of the lyrics to a beautiful song with a beautiful message. I Googled the song and I knew it would be perfect for this slideshow. Enjoy.

Hey Girl by Magic Mike

If you've visited Pinterest, chances are you've ran across one of the 'Hey girl' Ryan Goslin photos floating around. The ones that he's directly talking at you, telling you exactly what you want to hear. Like these.

After seeing Magic Mike this weekend, I think Channing Tatum should be the next 'Hey girl' poster hottie. Channing plays a stripper but has big dreams of being a furniture builder. In the movie, Magic Mike is asked, if money was no object, what he'd like to do for the rest of his life. His answer is somewhere along the lines that he'd like to be in an island somewhere where he could wake up every morning and build something everyday. Really?! LET'S GO, MAGIC MIKE!!! His 'Hey girl' posters would look something like these.

I must go now. I have to clean the drool off my laptop.

Have a happy Monday, everybody!!
