His Giving Heart

This boy. He has a way of pushing my buttons. The boy with the big mouth, that often gets him in trouble, has an even bigger heart.

Earlier this month the boys were making their letters to Santa. Sun Kissed Boy #1 didn't make one. I assumed it was because he knows that Santa gets a little help with gift giving. Wink, wink. I assumed wrong. I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and what he said surprised me. He didn't want anything for himself. Instead, he wanted to buy canned food to donate to an organization that helps the less fortunate.

I don't know why it surprised me so. In the past, he has given me money from his piggy bank to donate to several charities, he has spent time volunteering to help feed the elderly, and he helps his grandma to no end.

He's 11. I was never that giving at 11. I don't think I'm that giving even now. I thought maybe when the weeks passed the excitement from his brothers of gifts would be contagious. But he never changed his mind.

He pushed a grocery cart and filled it with items until it added up to the amount Sun Kissed Husband and I would have spent on his presents.

I found a local church that had a pantry kitchen and accepted donations. We took our bags and because giving can be infectious, a friend from work gave us canned goods to donate as well.

When we left, I asked him why he wanted to do what he did. His answer made me thankful for his giving heart. "Mom, I have everything I need. Of course there's things I want. But I don't need it as much as they need it."

Lounging in Their PJs

A few weeks back, I headed to The Children's Place to shop for Christmas photo card outfits for the boys. Then we got a cold front. When I say cold, I defined it as cold to South Florida standards. It was in the upper 60s... ok, maybe it was the low 70s.

By the time I got to the store, my mind was on cozy and snuggly. I ended up buying jammies instead. :) That's what we've been hanging out in all week.

Turns out jammies are great to wear while we bake cookies, ...

drink hot chocolate, ...

lounge, ...

read, ...

oh, yeah, and sleep.

Hope you're enjoying your 'winter' break as much as were are. :)
